This year's theme is "Mid Century to Modern." In celebration of the 1950 U.S. Census release, we have planned a jam-packed, educational event focusing on genealogy research into the later half of the 20th century. Topics include 1950 census research, the Great Migration, institutional records, newspaper research, house histories, and more!
Attendees will have full access to several on-demand webinars, plus two LIVE keynote lectures- including our opening lecture on Sunday, October 16th from Michelangelo Sabatino and Susan Benjamin, authors of Modern in the Middle: Chicago Houses 1929-1975!
In addition, our "Spark Sessions" are making a return for a second year- these are special, LIVE Zoom meetings with research experts representating various repositories and reserach centers in Illinois. This year will feature experts from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium, the Chicago History Museum, the Newberry Library, the Illinois Digital Archives, the Illinois State Archives, the Pritzker Military Museum- plus additional sessions on house histories and adoptee research!
And, don't miss our two exclusive workshops- Are you trying to find your ancestors on the 1950 Census? Laura Kovarik will present an in-depth workshop on working with the 1950 Census on Saturday, October 22nd!
Did you have ancestors who resided in an orphanage, maternity home, asylum, or penetentiary? Don't miss Katharine Andrew's workshop on finding institutional records on Saturday, October 29th!
Workshop registration is limited to 25 attendees per workshop, so register ASAP!
We hope to see you there!
