News To Use- Underground Railroad Task Force and Office Closure

This month, the Illinois House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to create a 10-member Underground Railroad Task Force. This group will work on developing statewide projects to recognize Illinois' connection to the Underground Railroad prior to and during the Civil War. The Task Force will also expand the Underground Railroad Conductor Program, which honors Illinois Ancestors who helped escaped African American slaves find freedom. The Conductor Program was established in Tazewell County and is starting to spread throughout the state. The Task Force will certainly help Illinois family historians who have ancestors with connections to the Underground Railroad! Read more about the new Task Force HERE! 50th Anniversary for Peoria County Genealogical Society!

This year, the Peoria County Genealogical Society is celebrating their 50th anniversary! Local Genealogy Updates- News To Use!

New grave markers for Civil War Veterans in Monee ISGS' own Society Genealogist, Rachel White, assisted the Sauk Trail Chapter of the NSDAR to place new grave markers for Civil War veterans buried at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Read all about it in the Chicago Tribune ! NEW online Illinois resource- Armour Institute of Technology Yearbooks! The Illinois Institute of Technology recently completed a grant-funded project to digitize the Armour Institute of Technology's yearbooks from 1898-1940! The books include class lists, histories, faculty lists, club and society memberships, photographs and much more!
