Mark your genealogy calendars for these upcoming events, including a special presentation from the Illinois Holocaust Museum, and a kid's art contest from the ALPLM!

The Champaign County Genealogical Society will meet over Zoom on Tuesday, February 9th at 7pm. Monique Rivera is the Co-director of Engagement at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois. She will present highlights on the history of marriage records in the U.S., along with tips and strategies for using them in family history research. Registration details are available on the CCGS website.


The St. Clair County Genealogical Society will hold their next Zoom meeting on Thursday, February 4th at 7pm. Mera Hertel will present "Acrhaeology in Your Backyard."  Mera Hertel oversees graphic productions at the American Bottom Field Station of the Illinois State Archaeological Survey. Managing ABFS's production and photography team, she coordinates the design and assemblage of high-quality photographic figures, maps, and illustrations for use in reports, publications, and various media works. She produces and assembles reports in-house, and routinely trains supervisory staff in field photography procedures. Mera oversees ABFS's digital photographic collections, historic map archives, and digital library. She serves as a cartographer, photographer, illustrator, researcher, and site file coordinator.

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center will be hosting a special Genealogy Event:
Special Presentation: Jewish Genealogy: Old Myths and New Science (DNA)
Wednesday, February 10, 6:30 pm (CST) | Virtual program | Illinois Holocaust Museum

Jewish Genealogy is an evolving pursuit to discover who we are and where we came from. A common misconception is that Jewish Genealogy is an impossible task – but this presentation will dispel those myths and show you how you can pursue your own family's history.
This program, hosted by the Heritage Committee of Illinois Holocaust Museum, will include an overview of the innovative science of how DNA testing has brought a new light to Holocaust research and searching for relatives. Mike Karsen, member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), the Genealogical Speakers Guild (GSG), and former President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois as he discusses these exciting new findings.
