Our friends at NSGS will be holding their next Zoom meeting this Saturday, November 14th at 1:00pm. Leslie Goddard will present  "Votes for Women: The 72-Year Struggle for Women's Suffrage."

At a time when voting can feel more like an obligation than a privilege, we can easily forget that it took 72 years for American women to win the right to vote. This illustrated slide lecture explores the long struggle from 1848 - when the first call was issued at Seneca Falls - to 1920, when women finally gained suffrage. In the ensuing years, women worked tirelessly, giving speeches, writing letters and petitions, gathering signatures by the thousands, and persevering in the face of strident opposition. Some were jailed and even beaten. You will never find voting inconvenient again.

CAGGIN will hold their next meeting via Zoom on Saturday November 21st at 10:30 am. Bobbie Coles of FREED will portray Hattie.

This year's historical re-enactor portrays an enslaved woman named Hattie, a "nameless, faceless woman of the Civil War." Hattie was stolen from her parents, she says. Then her 10 children, sold into slavery, were stolen from her.

Bobbie Coles is a member of the Female RE-Enactors of Distinction, or FREED, acting troupe. The troupe of women share the stories of women who supported the U.S. Colored Troops and fought for Black rights during the Civil War era.
