Meet the ISGS Fall Conference Speakers- Lauren Peightel

ISGS is thrilled to have Lauren Peightel as one of our Fall Virtual Conference speakers!

Lauren Peightel is the Manager of Genealogy and Cultural Programs with the Indiana Historical Society and co-chair of their Midwestern Roots Family History Conference, where her goal is to inspire the researcher to understand how their story fits into a larger historical context and why that history matters to today. Peightel comes to the Midwest with over ten years of experience as a research librarian and time in academic and national museum archives with a master’s degree in museum studies from Johns Hopkins University. Passionate about storytelling, Peightel has been in love with history since a young girl playing with her American Girl dolls and family vacations to historic sites.

Lauren will be presenting TWO exciting lectures that will follow our FUTURE theme:

Global Thinking with Local Impact
The future of history research is changing. Young historians are trying to better understand how we got to where we are today by studying their communities, their families, and the history that shaped them. Together we’ll discover new trends of research from students in National History Day and graduate studies in public history and museology, its relationship to a national focus on the history of laborers and their communities, and how applying this lens to our own work can inspire the younger generations around us.

Exploring Historical Dimensions
As we dig into the past, we can become caught up in the specifics of a person’s life, often losing sight of the human experience and the lessons we can learn by applying empathy to our ancestors’ and their communities. We’ll explore a variety of stories a history can tell by starting our research in completely new method that inspires completely different resources and ideas of understanding the past.

The ISGS Fall Virtual Conference will be held on Saturday, October 24th from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. A total of 8 speaker sessions are scheduled, and registrants will receive a copy of the syllabus with links to each session, the week prior to the conference.
