The Hidden Half: Women in History, Records, and YOUR Family by Liz Ross
Women make up about 50% of the population, but seem to present about 85% of the difficulties for genealogists. They are almost invisible legally, they change their surname at marriage, and in old age disappear into their children’s household. Yet, often, these very things assist the genealogist in tying together the generations, and building the family both up and out.
See "Events" at https://DCGS.org/ for registration information.
Saturday, September 19, 1 pm
(DCGS and Wheaton Public Library Class, Webinar)
Naturalization: The Path to U.S. Citizenship with Teresa Steinkamp McMillan
Naturalization, a process for becoming a United States citizen, has been in place since our country’s early history. Laws enacted and modified over time have resulted in changes to the process. This lecture discusses the history and procedural changes. Steps explaining how to find these records will be illustrated with examples.
See "Events" at https://DCGS.org/ for registration information.

The North Suburban Genealogical Society and the Glenview Public Library will host their next Zoom Meeting on Saturday, September 12th at 1:00 pm. Jenny Warner will present, "Mayflower- 400th Anniversary of Landing at Plymouth Rock."
In November 1620, 102 souls, Pilgrims & "Strangers", with the crew of the Mayflower, set out from Holland and Southhampton and landed in the New World after a two-month Atlantic crossing. They arrived not at their intended landing at the mouth of the Hudson River, but in a different and unknown land, Cape Cod. Learn about who these people were, what their journey was like, and how they managed on the voyage to a new life. Will also cover the steps to join one of the lineage societies for the Mayflower and where to get the information.
