Description: This class focuses on the genealogical research process and how to organize it. Attendees will learn to define their research goals; to create manageable projects; to break projects down into sub-projects and tasks; to track their goals, projects, and tasks using software tools; to use a research log in order to organize and record their research questions, their search strategies, and their results; to use tools for documenting the process from source to information to evidence to conclusion; and to complete the process by transferring their conclusions into genealogical database programs.

Drew Smith, MLS, is a University of South Florida (Tampa) librarian. He is Chair of the Family History Information Standards Organisation and President of the Florida Genealogical Society of Tampa. Drew is a past Secretary of the Association of Professional Genealogists, a past Director of the Federation of Genealogical Societies, and currently the “Rootsmithing with Technology” columnist for FGS FORUM magazine. He is co-host of The Genealogy Guys Podcast, and together with George G. Morgan has produced over 275 one-hour episodes. Drew is author of the book Social Networking for Genealogists and co-author of the book Advanced Genealogy Research Techniques.
